This blog is dedicated to Jesse and Tori's Wednesday evening section of Principles of Experience Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Winter 2008.
HOW: This game is a good idea but some tweaks would make its next iteration more successful. I know this was just a prototype but, for me, there were a few things basic things that could have been more visually clear to make this game easier to understand and play, and therefore more fun. They were: where to start, what were spaces (are the cards spaces?), the difference between the "inner circle" and the "outer circle", and what exactly the arrows meant. I think having a look at Signal-to-Noise ratio, Legibility, and Similarity might be a good place to start.
WHY: this game is fun because it crosses a drinking game with "truth or dare" naughty type questions. I do have to say though, I think some of the questions might be a bit too personal for a lot of people, and make the game awkward and embarrassing instead of fun.
WHO: From our list of personas, I'm not sure, it would depend on the visual style chosen. Because it is a drinking game it might appeal to most, but to me I really think it would appeal to a conservative female between the ages of 17 and 25...so GD people, ID people, and Res Rats?
How The games fun cup designs and colourful liquids make it fun and would attract attention. Some improvements could be made on the board to make it easier to understand. For instance the starting point and the distinguishing the differences between the outer and inner paths (maybe using colour or whatever).
Why This game is fun because it is played in a group where people all get to be embarrassed. The embarrassing tasks, questions and answers make this game fun.
Who I think this game would appeal to the personas of the res rats, slakers, gd, smokers, and mostly everybody on the list because it is a drinking game that appeals to the targeted age group of what they do for leisure and for fun and not what they like.
This idea is somewhat similar to the drinking wheel game. The instructions gave a good indication of how to start playing, and the rules were fairly easy to learn. The attention to detail with the construction and design really showed a lot of thought put into it.
The fun of this game is derived from the risque questions and the alcohol involved. After a few rounds with actual alcohol (instead of just pretending with the prototype), this game would be a fun in a social setting with a group of close friends.
I could see it appealing to groups who usually go out to party, but are perhaps snowed in or just hanging out one night. The hipsters, gangsters and res rats might fit this demographic.
