This blog is dedicated to Jesse and Tori's Wednesday evening section of Principles of Experience Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Winter 2008.
The fact that it was shaped as a huge guitar was great! It really got the whole mood going. If it was just a plain board, in the shape of a square or whatever, then it wouldn't have that same effect. That made it creative. The affordances were pretty clear, you roll the dice, answer questions, move the coins to the designated space. This also leads to mapping, the layout of the game was succesfully structured and easy to follow. You roll the dice you move up.
WHY
This game was fun because again of the shape of the game being a guitar. Also with the questions it made the game challenging. Personally, I had trouble answering the questions because I'm not into this music too much, but even still with that you learned new things anyway. :)
WHO
This prototype would appeal to the California Surfer dude, the graphic designer and the slacker. It could probably be appealing to more groups that weren't listed on the board as well. Anyways, it's the music they listin to so they would have a good background behind the subject and be succesful in playing it because it is something in their interest.
How The simplicity and design of the board made it fun and easy to understand. The guitar on the board game makes it fun and relates to the game’s concept. The layout of the board’s paths also made it fun because it leads you all over the board in crazy directions and not just around the board in a regular circle or square.
Why This game was fun because it challenges you in your music knowledge in many of the genres of music from rap to rock (for the questions that I got). It was also fun because the questions are relevant and current to the knowledge of what the targeted age group knows or might know. Another thing that made it fun was fact that when you got the answer right you could continue your turn until you got a question wrong.
Who I think this game appeals to hipsters, emo kids, gd, graffiti gangsters and practically to all the personas on the list because they all listen to music.
Rockology 101 was fairly easy to follow. The affordances of the dice, question cards and coins were and the game board itself were all easy to navigate.
The game was fun because of the challenge of the questions. The questions were popular and interesting enough to be fun for a majority of people.
This game would definitely appeal to the emo and hipster types, as well as the surfer dude.
